Ashoka-US Fellowship

 

The Ashoka Fellowship is a dynamic global community of leading social entrepreneurs who deliver high-impact solutions to society’s most pressing problems. The rapidly growing Fellowship network allows Fellows to leverage their ideas, collaborate, and enhance their innovations, achieving far more together than individually. Ashoka accelerates Fellows’ progress as an individual, a leader of an organization, a participant in group collaborative initiatives, and a member of a global community of peers.

Upon election, Fellows enter a robust learning community and gain access to programs to support their efforts:

Individual

  • Lifelong Membership – Join Ashoka's global community of leading social entrepreneurs.
  • Financial Support – Be eligible for a stipend for 3 years to focus full-time on refining and spreading their work.
  • Orientation - Be introduced to Ashoka and other Fellows to build community, explore synergies between Fellows and the Ashoka Fellowship, and support each other in meeting challenges
  • Induction – Attend a welcoming ceremony for newly elected Fellows giving national recognition for their work.
  • Invitations to Future Fellowship Gatherings and Retreats – Build relationships with the growing network of Fellows and learn about new opportunities and resources available from Ashoka and partners.
  • Award Nominations – Be nominated by Ashoka and receive alerts about awards and prizes.
  • Media Support - Gain media attention through Ashoka. Use Ashoka branding. Speak at Ashoka-organized panels. Be spotlighted in ProfNet, which connects reporters with Fellows. Have Fellows’ media hits circulated weekly to other Fellows and the Ashoka community.
  • Recognizing Outstanding Innovators (ROI) – Be featured in the Ashoka-US investors’ guide.
  • Fellowship Bulletin – Contribute and receive monthly e-newsletter reporting on opportunities and successes: grants, awards, program breakthroughs and major media attention.

Organization

  • Technical Assistance Grants Program (TAG) - Fellows may apply for a capacity-building grant for a consulting engagement in strategic planning, marketing and positioning, fundraising, or technology integration.
  • Problem Solving Consultation - Engage in consultations with Ashoka staff or Fellows.
  • Advocates for Social Entrepreneurs – Access pro bono local and international legal support.
  • Access to Justice Workshops - Learn about how to influence law and public policy.
  • Consulting Partnerships - Engage the consulting services of Ashoka’s strategic partners.
  • National Human Services Assembly - Receive discounts on a long list of products and access to a wide-range of services from leadership development, background checks, and executive coaching.
  • Volunteers – Be connected with volunteers interested in supporting the work of Fellows.

Group Collaborations

  • Exploration Funds - Apply for travel grants to meet other Fellows and discuss potential collaboration.
  • Innovation Funds - Receive funding for Fellows to combine expertise and develop a joint project.
  • Replication Funds - Access grants for Fellows to replicate a successful methodology in a new setting.
  • Policy Change Funds – Request funding for Fellows to start an initiative to induce policy change.

Community

  • Buddy Match – Upon election, Fellows are connected to someone in Ashoka's network who offers one-to-one support and the resources of their professional network.
  • Fellow Retreats – Attend Fellow-led annual retreats on a topic of their choice.
  • Fellow Visits – Meet other Fellows and Ashoka contacts throughout the world.
  • US Fellows List Serve – Use the list serve to directly connect with other US Fellows.
  • Engage with Ashoka Global Initiatives – Partner with Ashoka’s other programs such as Youth Venture, Changemakers.net, Law for All, Full Economic Citizenship, and Social Financial Services.
