Learning / Youth Development
Myth: Youth are the problem, adults need to be the solution.
Fact: The problems youth in the United States are facing – inadequate education, violence, abuse, addiction, homelessness, and limited futures – are problems that most people assume adults will fix for them. Throughout our Fellows, you will meet people who think differently about youth. They see youth as a resource for themselves and they have set out to engage youth on their own behalf – giving them training, skills, and access to a different future. The solutions range from venture capital firms investing in businesses created by high school youth to programs that provide the life skills that foster kids need to face life on their own at age 18; 8 years before most kids stop receiving support from their families. They connect youth to profitable business and encourage them to co-create the environments they need at school and in their communities. They are helping youth create the futures they seek, thus changing their trajectory and that of every member of their family for every succeeding generation.
